Can I change the stereo in my Honda Civic to a regular CD player?

I bought a 2001 Honda Civic yesterday and the factory installed Stereo does not work. I want to fit another CD player that I have but the Civic has an irregular fascia panel shape. How do I fit a rectangular CD Player? Can I get new surround? Its the model without steering wheel controls so it should be pretty straightforward to change over apart from the different shape.
