I have hyperthyroidism and am getting liver damage should I go along with radioactive pill or surgery?

i have graves disease and my medication is damaging my liver my doctor said that she would want to put me in a radioactive treatment but I am not sure what it does and what could happen to me is that the best thing or should I just get surgery and remove my gland instead of being in a radioactive pill and why? please help me
