Making a hat for christmas present?

I want to make a hat for a christmas present. Now, this is a very specific hat. It needs to be a christmas tree hat shaped like an avocado tree. So I'm thinking a hat with an avocado tree on top with some ornaments but I'm not sure how one would go about sewing one/making one.
