Is it really possible for California to break off?

I live in LA and I've heard this so many times and I'm a little creeped out with 5 earthquakes since this past Friday. My dad could care less about all this so I am kind of scared. So is it possible for Cali to break off or what will happen with this upcoming grand quake. If you have any websites w/info, feel free to include them in your answer.
